You MAF( mass air flow) sensor might be dirty and wont be recognizing that you have air flowing properly and causes the engine to shut off. Dont worry this happens very often and will eventually happen to everyone. It will also cause youre idle to be 'funny'. i.e. reving to 3000 rpm then back to 1000. Its a very easy fix. theres a write up for it that will explain it a lot better then i will. http://forums.c7performance.com/showthread.php?t=7910&highlight=cleaning goodluck.
My 1990 Toyota Celica Idle is too high... What seems to be the problem?
The Idle Speed misadjustment, Timeing misadjustment, or bad throttle position sensor. Search one of the 4WD forums like IH8MUD.com or Pirate4x4 for idle surge. check the coolant level.

My Celica is doing that as well. my uncle knows a thing or two about cars said it could be a Catalytic converter problem...
Separation of the ethanol due to water in the gasoline.
the idle adjust is on the throttle body. it loks like a screw with a nut locking it in place. just follow the gas cable under the hood and it will lead you to a half circleclamp. just turn left to higher it or right (clockwise) slowly to drop idle.
the engine to stall and surge at idle
auto or stick shift
