What causes obsessive compulsive disorder? In: Mental Health |

Answer
Although there is no clear genetic evidence, obsessive-compulsive disorder tends to run in families. Currently, researchers do not understand OCDs genetic mechanisms, though they suspect multiple genes are involved. Biological factors involving brain structure and activation are associated with OCD. Abnormalities of the frontal lobes, basal ganglia, and cingulum are common in people with OCD. Basal ganglia are involved in routine behaviors, like grooming, and the frontal lobes in organizing behaviors and in planning. The cingulum consists of fibrous bands that assist in communicating the brains behavioral and emotional messages. Support for its role in OCD is the fact that surgical severing of the cingulum has relieved and even cured people with the disorder.

Fool your brain! It can be done. If you are obsessive in some things you do put a thick elastic band around your wrist. (The results will take a month or so.) When you realize you are doing something compulsive snap that rubber band and let it hurt! It only stings a bit, but it stops the obsessive behavior.
Some obsessive behavior is just fine to live with. I can't go to sleep until I check all doors and windows in the house. If I should go to bed and realize I haven't check I will get up. Hurting anyone by doing this? Nope! Hurting myself? Nope! Am I crazy? I don't think so. I was brought up by very strict parents who instilled in me that "it's better to be safe than sorry." Usually OCD comes from our childhood.
Try that elastic band trick and don't think this is too simple to work. It works!
Good luck Marcy
Answer
If only dealing with OCD were as easy as snapping a rubberband on your wrist! In true OCD, the snapping of the band could itself turn into a compulsion. Some theories suggest that OCD may be related to Tourette's or even a type of misfire of the brain, or a seizure. Of course, it can be helped by therapy, but often it takes medication as well. No one knows what causes it exactly, it may be that one is born with the disposition and the environment influences it. In any case, it means nothing about you as a person, only that you have an illnesss that can be treated.
Answer
Ocd is treatable. It is believed to be caused by anxiety people might have suffered as a child. It is also thought that the viral infections of strep throat could affect those parts of the brain. It is not fully proven yet but this dis order is getting more and more rcommon in people who once had strep throat.

What the "experts" don't tell you!
This is a SYMPTOM of the underlining needs of a person's unfulfillment.
The need to control others, things and circumstances.
Do the experts seek out WHY a person NEEDS to be so obsessed and filled with compulsion? NOPE! They don't care WHY!
The "cause" is simple. Most people have needs are have never been met that fall into this catagory. Ever searching, never finding. They NEED NEED NEED, yet everything they do does NOT find fulfillment.
Find out where this NEED came from you might actually find the CURE to the issue.
Everyone's need is different.
Have you noticed that if you LACK in an area of your life they want to label it a DISORDER?
