You don't mention your ethnicity, but we commonly see harmless melanin (the substance that produces a brown color to the skin) pigmentation of the fungiform papillae (which are the larger "taste buds") of the anterior (tip) tongue. This is usually seen in persons of color and is completely normal. If the condition that you have seems to be different than this description, you might want to make an appointment to see an oral pathologist for further evaluation

One reason there could be a red streak down the center of the tongue is Glossitis. A doctor will be able to diagnose this for you.
