Best guess is the onset of a migraine headache, although more detail would help (feel free to add to the Discussion section of this question). Has this happened before? Does it come and go? Anything new in your routine?

∙ 11y agoVery much depends where it is, how often it occurs, how long it lasts etc. could be migraine, if it's in the face it could be trigeminal neuralgia (you'd know - its one of the most painful conditions known). There are a million reasons, from teeth-grinding causing pressure and misalignment, through any number of maxillo-facial, neuro and other conditions. If it is severe or frequent, go and see a doctor.

∙ 9y agoA headache that is primarily behind the eye is called a cluster headache. A cluster headache can be controlled by over the counter pain relief such as Advil.

What causes pain behind the eyes?
Well my pain was right above my eyes and in my eye sockets and I saw an eye doctor. He told me I have Isophoria (not sure how to spell it) and I need to wear glasses when I read, get on the computer or watch TV. It helps some but i take ibuprofen every other day or so.
