What does it mean when your blood is alkaline?

pH is a measure of alkalinity (base) and acidity. Normal blood pH is between 7.35 and 7.45. When your blood pH is above 7.45 then you have alkaline blood. This is also called alkalemia.

Your body can compensate for an increase in base or acid. Stomach acid neutralizes bases and your blood has a lot of HCO3 (bicarbonate) that can buffer, or resist, changes in pH up or down.

There are a number of things...hyperventalization can cause alkalosis of the blood...the lungs are gettin rid of too much co2 wich causes hydrogen to be released into the blood by a series of reactions also vommiting

If one's blood is considered to be alkaline it means that the PH levels in the blood have more alkaline than acids. Often the levels of alkaline can be increased due to diseases that destroy organs such as bones, liver and bile ducts.
