air temperature changes as altitude increase. The temperature differences result mainly from the way solar energy is abosorbed as it moves through the atmosphere. some parts of the atmosphere are warmer because they contain a high percentage of gases that absorb solar energy. othe parts of the armosphere contain less of these gases and are cooler.

The Earth is heated by the Sun, and warmer air rises into the atmosphere. But at higher altitudes, the air is colder (this is the adiabatic lapse rate) because the pressure is lower and it is not warmed as greatly.

Convection currents carry the warmer air aloft as cold air sinks toward the surface. The pressure systems formed, along with the rotation of the earth, create the planetary wind patterns.

What causes changes in the amount of water vapor in the atmosphere?

Temperature, pressure, and water availability. For example, if you decrease temperature, the air cannot hold as much water vapor, this is the main cause of dew in the morning. If you add a large supply of water, like a lake, into a desert region the air can act like a sponge.

Based on temperature differences.

what main factors cause the air in earths atmosphere to move?

uneven heating by the sun causes changes of atmospheric pressure, and winds blow from regions with high pressure to those with low pressure.

Why doesnt air temperature change uniformly with altitude?

Altitude doesn't change uniformly because the four main layers of the atmosphere have different temperature gradients, creating the thermal structure of the atmosphere.
