The Ten Commandments are mentioned in two different parts of the Pentateuch; the text is very similar in both cases: Exodus 20:1-17 and Deuteronomy 5:4-21.

The Ten Commandments are found in Exodus chapter 20
The Ten Commandments were given to Moses by God atop Mt. Sinai on the Sinai Peninsula, which is east of northern Egypt. Chapter 19 of Exodus describes the Israelites' coming into the wilderness of Sinai, and Chapter 20 describes God's proclamation of the Ten Commandments to Moses.

According to the book of Exodus (chapter 20, verse 3), in the King James Version Bible, the first of ten commandments told to Moses from God is "Thou shalt have no other gods before me."
Ten is a number denoting fullness, entirety, the sum of all that exists of something. For example the Ten Plagues, Ten Commandments, ten days...The fullness of he test God allows for his servants.
