First Telephone line was installed between Kaiaipoi and Addington in 1877. In 1878, the first commercial telephone service, using a privately built line in Christchurch.
The first public manual exchange was installed in Christchurch in 1881.
Dunedin become New Zealand's first city by growth of population in 1865.This is due to the fact that gold was found in Gabriells Gully which cause the first gold rush of New Zealand.
