What cloths do Muslim wear?

It is to be emphasized that Islam does not command a specific type of clothing. It only gives guidelines and rules. Islam gives guidance about all aspects of life, including matters of public decency. Islam has no fixed standard as to the style of dress or type of clothing that Muslims must wear. However, some minimum requirements must be met. Islam has two sources for guidance and rulings: the Qur'an which is considered to be the revealed word of Allah, and the Hadith or traditions of the Prophet Muhammad, who serves as a human role model and guide.

Muslims are free in selecting and choosing what they want to dress or to wear. However, per Islam religion, the cloth should meet particular basic requirements to:

• ensure Muslim modesty in her/his dressing,
• avoid sexy excitation or any sexy feelings when looking to the opposite gender.
• match the approved community clothing practices that do not contradict religion obligations

These clothing particular requirements are:

For men

There is no specific clothing requirement by religion. It is subject to the local cultures and traditions. However, the cloth:

• should, at least, cover the body from the naval to the knees, and
• should not be from silk.
• In addition, men are forbidden from wearing gold in any form.

For women

Muslim women is allowed to wear all cloth types, materials (including silk), styles, colors, and fashions. No restriction on the cloth material or colors. The cloth could be from silk or any other material. It could be colorful or not. It could be dark colored, white colored, of different colors, whatever. It could be one piece cloth or more than one piece. Only three conditions, by religion rules, should be considered:

• The cloth should cover all her body, including head and hair, except face and hands that remain uncovered (head and hair cover without face is called Hijab).
• The cloth should not be so tight to figure out her body and sexy parts
• The cloth should not be so transparent to show what is underneath.

The part of the cloth covering the head (and hair and neck), but not the face, is called Hijab and is a basic woman dressing requirement per religion teachings.

They wear the clothes that they like and colors that they prefers but subject to certain rules. Accordingly, Muslims can select the clothing styles and fashions that meet these rules and on the other hand meet his/her own preference and tendencies.
