but some metal bits are chrome, so the way to know a masonary bit is because it has a wider tip like an arrow head or a spade and of coarse, a metal bit won't cut masonary

The colour really depends on the manufacturer. There is no convention that says a metal drilling bit is any particular colour. -Most of mine are steel blue. However, I have noticed that many of the newer bits lately are Gold coloured for metal bits.

It depends on the maker, they are often a dull silver colour, but not always. The distinctive feature is always the carbide tip which is slightly wider than the bit size, and quite obvious on the point of the bit.
