In 1976, the scheduled landing of the Viking lander on Mars on July 4th, 1976 (for the Bicentennial) had to be postponed because of planet-wide dust storms that were obscuring the entire surface. They weren't able to land for over 2 weeks, until July 20th (the anniversary of the Apollo 11 landing).
