The way I make gold with colored pencils or crayons is I color yellow, then a bit of brown and orange.
If I am not mistaken, metallic paints actually contain very finely divided metal powders, so to make something that looks like gold paint, you would sand or file brass until you have a sufficient amount of powder, then add it to clear laquer. If you want real gold paint, you will need to file gold, then add it to the laquer.
You'd probably take the colors brown, white, and yellow if you're working with paint.
