What color mixed together make black?

• Equal amounts of each of the primary colors (red, yellow, blue) will equal black.
• If you mix equal parts of burnt umber and ultramarine blue (deep) you will get a light black which is almost as good as the real thing. Burnt Umber and French Ultramarine in approximately equal parts will form a kind of blue/black. This can be proved by adding white: you will now get gray!
• Experiment with the proportions to get the exact mix you want.
• blue + green = cyan red + blue = magenta cyan + magenta + yellow = black
• No two colors will make black. As regards the spectrum of light, all the basic colors make white, but in paint the opposite does not apply. adding all the basic colors makes brown. (blue + yellow is green. Green + red is brown.) Adding more dark colors will only make the brown bluer.
• I use 2 different blacks and mix them together as needed, my first black is made from Alizarin Crimson and Veridian Green, (slowly add red to the green) - very nice this one. The other from Vandyke Brown and Prussian Blue (slowly add the blue to the brown). Individually these blacks are very different & perhaps not quite black until you mix black 2 (blue/brown) slowly to black 2 (red/green).
