First off, copperheads (as with all pit vipers) are not hatched, they are born in much the same way mammals are but with some variation. More on to the point; they don't change colors as they mature except for their neon tail. When they are born they have a brightly colored tail to attract prey (like frogs, toads and even small mammals). They will hold much the same coloration (maybe darker) throughout their entire lives, but after about a year the neon coloration on the tail changes to the same coloration of their entire body.

You cannot change the color of the egg shell, genetics are pre determined at hatch and the color of the shell is not effected by feed. You can change the color of the yolk with feed but not the shell itself. The color of the shell is due to a bile duct secretion as the egg is forming in the oviduct of the hen.

At first glance it may seem impossible to tell the difference between a red and green hatch chile pepper. But the truth is that both are delicious, versatile, and come from the same plant. Hatch chiles are native to New Mexico and have been a staple of southwestern American cooking for several centuries. The color of hatch chile peppers varies from green to red. Hatch chiles are typically dried and ready to use when they turn a green color.

Copperheads wait in ambush for a victim to approach. Once within striking range, the snake strikes out and injects venom. It then waits for the victim to die and then follows the scent of the animal and devours it head first.
