I am a registered Nurse and there are many things that you can do after you have completed your RN. If You do not already have a BSN, and have an ASN, you must obtain a BSN before you can do anything beyond an RN. Advanced degrees in nursing include CRNA which is a nurse who gives anesthesia. A CRNP is a nurse practioner who scope of practice is similar to that of a doctors you can see diagnose and prescribe medications to patient's but are under the supervision of a Dr. each CRNP has a speciality that the get a degree in and practice in which includes pediatrics, psychology, gereatrics, and family practice. You can also be an RNFA which is an RN whom assist dr's with surgery. You can Also get your masters degree in management leadership and as a nursing educator. One of the newest degrees is nursing informatics where you are an RN who develops medical software used for electronic documetaion.

In terms of nurses, the next step up would be a nurse practitioner (NP), which must have a master's or doctorate in nursing.
