The most common and the most easily remedied would be thrush. This is a fungal infection that involves the frog and sole of the hooves. The creases around the frog will have a black, greasy substance that can have a bad ordor. There are several over the counter anti-fungal solutions to apply to affected feet. These must be applied every day until the condition is completely cleared up. If you feel it is something different than thrush contact your vet.

How are horses damaging Australia?

There are many debates over the Brumbies of Australia and their impact, their hooves compact soil which leaves no air spaces where water can soak into the soil, which causes drought like conditions after some time. They also eat the grass and foliage which can cause soil erosion and 'dust bowl' type problems. There is also the problem of over population in some areas which can lead to health problems for the horses and not enough space for native species.

Does the cold weather affect the equine lamintis?

Yes it does. Cold weather can cause the ground to freeze over and become hard which makes it hard on the horses with laminitis to move comfortably. The cold weather will also cause the horses circulatory system to slow down and decrease blood flow to the hooves which can lead to more laminitis problems and increased pain in the hoof.

Is it bad to use rain maker on your horses hoofs everyday?

The label clearly states the best use is once to twice a week. Using Rainmaker everyday could cause issues with the hoof horn. You should consult with a qualified farrier and a equine veterinarian if the product does not seem to be working or if the horses hooves need extra care.

Should you put horse shoes on your horse during the winter?

Depends on what kind of terrain and what kind of riding you are going to be doing. Some horse owners tend to leave their horse's shoes on to protect their hooves, but this can cause the horse to slip and injure itself. If you take your shoes off the horses hooves still grow as much in the winter as the summer so they need a regular trimming. The best way to go is a boot or pad that helps the horse not slip and protects their hooves.

Why do horses hooves crack?

Usually because of a lack of moisture, if you live in a dry area, then applying hoof oil / creme would be the best way to prevent cracking. Also rough or hard ground, and uneven hoof trimming.. or lack of hoof trimming. (uneven as in one foot trimmed shorter than the other). or rotating of the coffinbone <-- if that might be the cause, then call a farrier or vet emmediately.

How does riding a horse to much effect the horse?

If you are in a hot region, The horse can get lethargic, have a heat stroke, colic, pass out for no reason except cooling, get depressed, or lose too much weight. If you are in a cold region, the horse can get laminitis, frostbite, hypothermia (yes, horses get it too), snow bulbs (snowballs or hailstones stuck in a horses hoof), slip on ice and cause injuries, or bloodpressure drop. I agree with all the above, in addition if ridden on hard or rocky surfaces which their hooves have not had a chance to adapt to, it can cause road founder, or damage their hooves. Also, horses and man are two species which are capable of running themselves to death, as when the body is pushed too far too soon it will digest itself. This condition can be irreversable.
