What could be wrong if a boat dies when you give it gas?

Answer

I had the same problem with my I/O, have you changed the filters yet? Fuel/water sep? Do you have good fuel?

My question to you is, has anybody messed with the shift cable lately? if so then they had not adjusted it corectly. try puting you shifter in neutral/coldstart, and revving engine. does it stall? if not now shift into gear does it die? then it can be either a bad adjustment in the shift cable or the timing is off.

Answer

sounds like your water seperator is plugged or the fuel filter if you have changed the water seperator recently and it is suddenly full of water then you probably picked up water in your gas somehow and will probably have to drain the tank or it will fill a new water seperator again
