Can you tell if the compressor is running? If it is, is the fan motor in the freezer running? Door switch may have to be pushed in, in order to find out. Is there a fan motor on the bottom of the refrigerator? If so, is it running? Is the thermostat turned up high enough to bring on compressor? Is there an air damper? May look like the thermostat. It should say something like colder freezer or colder refrigerator and have numbers or letters on it. Try setting it mid ways. Also set the thermostat to a higher number. Is the light on in the refrigerator? This will tell you if you have power to the refrigerator and not just to the plug in. If the compressor is not running and the thermostat is turned up, try locating the defrost thermostat. On most GE's and Hotpoint's they are located on the bottom front of the refrigerator. On other brands, they can be located with the thermostat and air damper. Some are on the back. Look for a small round dial on the timer if you can find it. The timer is probably about two and a half inches wide, about three or three and a half inches tall and about two inches deep. There should be a plug on it with about four wires on it. Don't touch the wiring or anything that may shock you. If you locate the timer, take a flat screwdriver and insert in t in the small dial. (about 3/8 of an inch in diameter) Turn the dial slightly, if you hear a distinct click and hear the compressor, the timer probably needs to be replaced. Also, if the back inside of the freezer or possibly the bottom of the inside of the freezer has a heavy frost or ice buildup, you probably have a defrost problem. By turning the defrost timer dial until you hear a distinct click and the compressor shuts off you have successfully put the refrigerator into the defrost mode. Wait twenty or thirty minutes. It may click back into regular cooling mode bu itself, if not turn the dial slightly and the compressor should come back on. If the freezer is frosted up and you do turn the timer dial until it clicks and if the compressor shout off, you should hear a sort of sizzling noise after a minute or two. This is the frost melting inside the freezer. If you don't hear the sizzling, the defrost thermostat or defrost heater, both located in the evaporator coil section of the freezer, may be faulty and you should get a professional to look at it for you. These are normally very reasonable to replace. As a retired service tech. I couldn't agree more with the answer except to add check the condenser to see if it is clogged and the condenser fan is turning.

Why is your home refrigerator not cold but the freezer section is extremely cold?

There are several possible reasons why a home refrigerator may not be cold while the freezer section remains extremely cold: Thermostat issue: The thermostat controls the temperature settings for both the refrigerator and freezer compartments. If the thermostat is faulty or set incorrectly, it could result in the refrigerator section not cooling properly while the freezer section continues to chill. Damaged or blocked air vents: The refrigerator and freezer compartments are connected by air vents that allow cold air to circulate. If these vents are blocked by food items or damaged, it can disrupt the airflow and prevent proper cooling in the refrigerator section. Defective evaporator fan: The evaporator fan is responsible for circulating cold air throughout the refrigerator. If the fan malfunctions or stops working, it can lead to inadequate cooling in the refrigerator while the freezer section still receives cold air. Condenser coil issues: The condenser coils, located at the back or bottom of the refrigerator, release heat from the system. If these coils are dirty or covered in dust, they may not be able to dissipate heat efficiently, resulting in inadequate cooling in the refrigerator section. Refrigerant leak: A refrigerant leak can cause an imbalance in the cooling system, resulting in the freezer section becoming excessively cold while the refrigerator section remains warm. This is a more serious issue that may require professional repair. If you're experiencing this problem with your refrigerator, it is advisable to consult a qualified appliance technician to diagnose and fix the specific issue. Why is my Refrigerator cold and the freezer is not cold?

You may have a faulty defrost timer. This is generally a small plug in unit at the lower front under the fridge. If you have a vent grill, take if off and look, if you see a small black unit about half the size of a cell phone, with a wireloom containing 3-5 wires, that could be it. Unplug it and take to a good appliance parts store. -I've found this to be the commonest problem of not cooling properly, although there may be other issues.

What is a bottom freezer refrigerator?

its not always at the bottom its just the way yours is made some other people have asked why is it at the TOP of the refrigerator so my answer is that its just a selective spot depending on what fridge you have. In fact, the majority of refrigerator/freezer combinations have the freezer on top. As mentioned in other posts, hot air rises and cold air sinks, so freezer-on-top models can transfer cold air to the refrigerator without using as much electricity as other models, making freezer-on-top models the most energy efficient refrigerators (generally speaking) that you can buy.

What can one do to stop the baffle on a refrigerator from seizing up?

To stop a refrigerator baffle from seizing up, one could try defrosting the freezer. The baffle can be adjusted to make a refrigerator warmer or cooler, so changing the settings could have a positive effect.

What is the formal word for fridge?

A refrigerator is a noun and as such will not have an opposite. However, if you refrigerate something, the antonym would be to cook or heat.A refrigerator is something that cools things. An opposite could be a freezer which freezes things or a heater which heats things.

Why are freezer on top of fridge?

One possible reason is because of the size of the freezer compared to the size of the refrigerator portion. If the refrigerator portion were placed over the freezer, then you would have to kneel down to use the freezer. Another part of it could pertain to convection. Cold air tends to circulate down. So with the right amount of gap between the freezer portion and the rest, just enough cold air can flow down to cool the refrigerator. So the evaporator coils are only in the freezer and yet can cool the entire unit. If the evaporator coils were on the bottom, then only the lower portion of the refrigerator would be cool since heat rises, and some of the cavity space would be wasted. So for simplicity and efficiency, the coils are placed on top and that this area is made the freezer. So they cool only the freezer and have a small opening to let the cold air come down (or warm air to come up to be more accurate) to reach the 34-38 degrees Fahrenheit needed for the refrigerator. Sometimes there is an adjustable damper there. The thermostat is just for the refrigerator in most cases, since if the refrigerator is within proper range, the freezer would be too, all because of the design. On those with a control for the freezer, that control generally moves a little damper (door). So the colder you set the freezer, the harder you are making the refrigerator portion to cool. Since the actual thermostat is located in the refrigerator section, the longer the compressor must run to make that compartment the proper temperature when you close the damper (by setting the freezer control colder).

What is An appropriate method for cooling a large quantity of food?

A large quantity of food must be cooled by immediate refrigeration. The refrigerator's temperature should be set as cold as possible and, if practicable, the food to be cooled should be refrigerated on shallow trays or dishes to allow for quick cooling. You could also put your trays of food into the freezer until cold, before covering or sealing and refrigerating.A large quantity of food must be cooled by immediate refrigeration. Why do fruit flies keep climbing into your freezer ice machine?

A cause of fruit flies getting into your freezer ice machine could be because they are attracted to the drip pan under the refrigerator. Chances are they traveled through the water line.

How do you keep ice from forming on the back wall and top of the refrigerator portion of a refrigerator-freezer?

You didn't say how old the freezer is. However, what usually causes this is loading your freezer too tight with food (no air circulating) or accidently leaving the door ajar (this happens more often than one realizes.) Your temperature may be way too cold. Once these freezers are 10 - 12 years old then it's time to get a new one. To sustain a freezer for a long life period one needs to rotate their foods (food you bought a few weeks to a month before should be kept on top and the newer foods put underneath.) Also, anything that has been in your freezer for a year should be thrown out. If you hunt or fish or have bought roasts, etc., put plastic wrap around it, then wrap it in several sheets of newspaper. The newspaper is an insullation and will keep your meats from freezer burns and you may get more than a year out of those meats. Freezer burned meats are not bad for you, but they do lose their flavor.
