Can you get a hernia from a belly button ring?
No. I've had my belly button pierced for eight years and never had a hernia. So I have a hard time believing that a belly button ring could cause a hernia. It can cause an infection but it can't cause a hernia.

If small intestines get's through the canal into the scrotum it could cause severe pain and ischemic bowel. (dead intestines). If they find one in a young child usually it will heal on its own. You just have to reduce the hernia (push it back in) But in an adult it should be repaired (herniorrhaphy)

You can't "do" anything, this "knot" is part of the umbilical cord, which is attached to your belly button, it is perfectly normal and should be there, but, if this "knot" continues to cause pain you should seek medical attention as this could lead to a hernia, very common and easy to sort out Hope this helps:)
