Answer
That doesn't necessarily mean it's wet tail.
"Wet Tail" will usually be just like human diarrhea. Brown in color and watery...runny. It will very often stick to their butts in almost a "caked-on" fashion. You might even hav to soak their butt with a soft, wet cloth to get it off. Wet Tail is leathal and fast-killing of hamsters, so try to make sure your hammy doesn't get it. I put Pedialyte in my hamsters water bottle (you only need a few tblsp. or so..I mix my hammy's by putting in 1/4 full with the pedialyte to 3/4 water). I have had several hammys die from wet tail, but when I read about the pedialyte, I tried it, and this hammy has been healthy for a long time now. Also another thing I was doing wrong was letting my hammy get near my dog. For some reason dogs hav a salmonella that hammys pick up real fast, and that leads to wet tail, too.
As far as the white gooey stuff (and it's very smelly too!) that sounds like you hav a female hamster that is in heat. If it's white, that is. I hav never heard of "wet Tail" displaying sytoms that were a "white" discharge. Though wet tail is smelly, the "in heat" discharge will be worse! But it is a natural occurance for hammys..it's just part of their nature....they are live animals, you know!
I hope this helps you! Hammy's rule!
