What date were subways introduced? |
[Edit] |
The first subway
The very first subway was a two-mile section of the Metropolitan Railway in London. It ran from Paddington to Farringdon Street. Work started in 1860 and this section opened in January 1863. (This particular part of the London Underground is now on the Hammersmith and City Line).
Most older subways in Continental Europe date from the 1890s or slightly later.
