∙ 13y agoThe first Bamberger's Department Store Thanksgiving day parade was held on November 24, 1947, in downtown Newark, NJ. Bamberger's was not the first to open Christmas shopping season with a Thanksgiving day parade, however; Gimbels (Philadelphia, 1920), Macy's (New York City, 1924) and the American Thanksgiving Day Parade (Alaska, 1924) started the tradition.
