Where the mare foals determines the foal's status as a state bred, however, each

registry and state are somewhat different. If the mare foals in a state where she is not entered into a state bred program but foals in the state where the stallion stands the foal may be a state bred.

The foal may not be a state bred in some states if she is not in the state and registered as a state bred before a certain date.

So...a foal could be born in Virginia (which would show on the foal's papers) but the foal might not be able to participate in any state bred programs because the sire or

dam's status does not meet state criteria.

How often can You stud a stallion?

Stud is the term for the breeding farm where stallions are kept and not the term for the stallion or breeding itself. Many factors go into how often a stallion can be bred, the quality of the semen, the method used for breeding, and the how reproductively fit the mares you are breeding are. If the stallion is of good quality semen wise you can breed him multiple times daily during live cover (with a real mare.) Or collect several samples for artificial breeding.

What is a breeding stallion?

A breeding stallion is a male horse who makes mares (female horses) pregnant. The process can be very tricky and has to be done by someone who is trained. The term, "breeding", generally is the term for, "mating", as you probably have heard with other animals, but in a controlled way so that the foal is how you want it.
