The majority of the population speak either Italian or Slovene. There are also small numbers of Frulian speakers which is a separate Romance language. Lots of the Italian speakers in Trieste speak Triestin which is a dialect of the Venetian language and fairly similar to Italian. Small numbers of German, Hungarian, Serbian and Albanian speakers also exist in the city.
