Columbus named an island in the current Bahamas - San Salvador. The exact island is not known but one has been chosen and given that name.

Columbus made 4 voyages in total. He landed on South and Central America on the last two.

Columbus refused to believe that he did not find India which is why the continents are named after Amerigo Vesopucci.

The first voyage of Columbus was named as Admiral of the Ocean, and Viceroy of all the lands he discovered in the name of the Spanish Crown, the land he first landed on was the Island of the Hispaniola, named to remember who payed for the trip, America was the name that the spanish used to name the whole continent, which in a way was divided between Portugal and Spain, North America was Spanish, nothing to do with the USA, which was not founded until more that 250 years later.
