In 1950, President Harry S. Truman committed US Military forces to the United Nations military effort and named Gen. Douglas MacArthur Commander of the U.N. forces. The war ended up in a stalemate and an agreement was signed after two years of fighting. He was president from 1944 to 1952, when Dwight Eisenhauer was elected.

Harry Truman was an artillery officer in the Great War (later known as World War One). He served with Battery D, 129th Field Artillery, 35th Division of the American Expeditionary Force (AEF). Battery D consisted of men from Kansas City and the area immediately surrounding. His actual combat was from September 2, 1918 until the armistice took effect on November 11, 1918.
