What did Hitler do to make sure that nobody else could overthrow him? |
Answer
Whenever he became suspicious of anybody's personal loyalty to him, he had them executed. This included, for instance, the leader of the S.A., one of Hitler's closest personal friends, Ernst Roehm, and hundreds of S.A. officers in 1934 when Hitler came to suspect them. Michael Montagne
Answer
Those loyal to Hitler set up a police state very quickly. It used informers (spies), a political police, torture, concentration camps and death to terrorize dissidents. Any opponent of the regime was at risk, even people who posed no real threat.
From 1934 onwards Himmler and his deputy, Heydrich, headed a rapidly expanding terror apparatus.
The Nazi regime usually didn't bother to put people on trial for 'political crimes'. Those few cases that did go to trial were dealt with by special 'People's Courts'. All members of any jury at such a court had to be members of the Nazi Party. From 1938 onwards they had to be salaried Party officials!
