What did chivalry govern?

Answer:
The code of chivalry governed the actions of knights, especially, but also of people in some power. It dealt with their actions in relation to people of less power, especially women, the disabled, the poor, anyone injured. It also dealt with enemies. It demanded mercy, justice, charity, virtue, and honor. It also dealt with courtly love, which was a rather strange concept by modern standards, in which a knight and a lady might love each other in secret, with our without sex, and virtuously, though one might be married to someone else.
