Creek Indian women traditionally wore skirts made of animal skins or woven fibers, such as cotton or hemp. They also wore blouses or tunics, often decorated with beadwork or shell ornaments. In cooler weather, they would add shawls or blankets for warmth.

The Creeks were divided into Upper and Lower Creeks and they probably migrated into Georgia and Alabama from the southwest - some people believe they descend from the Natchez.

Women wore a calf-length skirt wrapped around the waist and tied with a leather strap; this skirt was either a single piece of deerskin or several small animal skins sewn together. They also used a kind of cloth woven from mulberry tree bark. Moccasins seem to have had high tops extending to the calf of the leg. Young girls were given a skirt and moccasins as soon as they could walk.

In very warm weather the skirt was worn on its own, but a mantle of woven mulberry was added in cooler or wet weather, tied on one shoulder. Shawls of flamingo feathers were sometimes used.

Women's hair was never cut, but braided and fastened in a knot on top of the head and dressed with bear grease and sumac berries.

The Hopi Indians, having lived for thousands of years, did not originally wear very much clothing. The men would wear a breechclout or a short kilt.
