The scientist discovered Radium and Polonium and was the only Woman and indeed only the second person of either gender to win TWO Nobel scientific prizes (Physics and Chemistry, in different years) It should be noted that in more recent times, Linus C. Pauling won the Nobel Prize (again, different years) for both Chemistry and Peace. These are the only knwon (Two-category) Nobel laureates. No juvenile has ever won any Nobel award.

Marie Curie was most famous for her work with radioactivity. She was a pioneer in the field, and developed new techniques for isolating radioactive isotopes, and helped lead the world's first studies on the treatment of cancer using radioactive isotopes. She also discovered the elements polonium and radium. She won the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1903 for her work with radiation, and then won the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1911 for her discovery of radium and polonium. Marie Curie's tragic death also undoubtedly gave her some added fame; she died due to her work with radioactivity, after developing aplastic anemia due to her exposure to radiation. This tragedy and sacrifice for her field cemented the fame that she had already achieved in life.
