The styles of the abstract expressionists varied widely. Each had their own unique methods, some were purely abstract while others included representation of objects. The main link of abstract expressionists was in their "action painting". The viewer could imagine the stages of development and figuratively see the hand of the artist (i.e. Pollock's drip paintings evoke the image of the artist physically dripping the paint. De Kooning's broad strokes evoke the image of an agitated artist quickly applying the paint)

Up until expressionism and impressionist art the world was looked at in a structured way. Art tried to make an exact copy of the world. Even when the camera was invented they tried to translate a picture as an exact figure of people or a place. This one reason people look so stiff and structured in early photos they were trying to copy the paintings. When expressionism came it didn't look at the world in this way. It took a different view of the world and was expressive instead of static and structured. At first, it was not considered art and the critics gave bad reviews.

Maybe do a blueish shading on its underbelly. or..... color it any color you want, and don't be limited by the restrictions of reality, and the confines of what is considered the "norm." (look up abstract expressionism, and surrealism)
