pies and baseballs
Pies and baseballs? Personally, I never saw that, but what I did see was a variety of different clothing styles in the 80's, much of which were driven by the ground-breaking invention of the music video and the MTV station.
Jeans were always popular, however some of the more "unique" forms of clothing were parachute pants - they had a lot of pockets and were made of a parachute-like material.
For females, bows, lots and lots of bows, the bigger the better. This trend was set by Madonna herself. Also, polka dots were popular on clothing, i.e. dresses, shirts, etc.
The 80's also saw the introduction of expressing beliefs on T-Shirts. This became very popular due to a Wham video (George Michael lead singer) where-in he wore a shirt that said "Choose Life".
On the more narley side of the clothing equation, flourescent orange and yellow shirts were very popular as were flourescent and gaudy pants like the ones you may see WWE wrestlers wearing from time-to-time.
Finally, and what I think is the true hallmark of 80's clothing as it left an indelliable impression on future generations, Spandex.

nobody should wear a cummerbund, unless you're from the 80s.
If you are looking for 80s clothes think less about finding a ready made costume and more about picking up some cheap clothes people used to wear in the 80s from ebay or from your local goodwill. That will make the costume that much more authentic.
The Madonna look is an easy costume to make and even the make-up isn't hard. Try this website for information on how to become a "Madonna",http://www.80s-fashion-fancy-dress.com/wear-80s-party.html.

Yes all the time, it was a big style
Whenever you feel like it. I know plenty of people who were children of the 70s and 80s who still wear them (albeit adult-sized). If you like them, wear them for as long as you feel like it.
