What did richard nixon do after his resignation? In: Richard Nixon |
[Edit] |
After his resignation on August 8 1974, former United States President Richard Milhous Nixon retired to write his memoirs and rehabilitate his reputation. He wrote numerous newspaper and magazine articles, and published eight books, including The Real War.
Nixon came to be considered an elder statesman and political analyst. As an expert in foreign policy his advice and counsel were sought by Senator and presidential candidate Bob Dole and President Bill Clinton.
Although his standing as a disgraced President dogged him he traveled again to China, where he was warmly received, and in 1994, shortly before his death, he returned to Russia.
Seen by historians as one of the worst Presidents and rated by the Murray Poll in the 1982 Tribune as 34th out of 36, by the time of his death in 1994 he had achieved at least a partial rehabilitation, with the 1995 Chicago Sun-Times poll of presidential scholars ranking him 19th out of 38.
