He led an army of men to defeat Santa Anna's army and claim the independence of what is now Texas.

It all happened in 15-18 minutes. The men wanted to hang Santa Anna once they had captured him after he had fled and left his men in the Battle of the Alamo. Sam Houston had refused and forced Santa Anna to sign oer Texas and part of Mexico to the United States.
