The early settlers were gatherers and ate vegetation, roots, and berries. They were hunters who ate animals (venison) including small game like rabbits and larger game such as white tail deer or black bears. Settlements near the coast, harbors, and rivers also ate crabs, oysters, fish, etc. They often smoked meats and fish to preserve the food for later. Once settlers began farming, they added vegetables and grains to their meals. Native Americans taught White settlers how to grow corn.
Note: There were products not available locally in the 13 colonies. That is why the British shipped over tea and sugar, for 2 examples, then tried to heavily tax these products.

The Spanish began to explore America looking for land, gold, and other riches. They settled in America to establish colonies for Spain and to search for riches.
Do you mean the first settlers in North America or just the area of the United States. Many European fishermen fished the waters off the northern coasts of North America and the US but did not settle there. The Spanish conquistadores explored the Southwest of what would become the US in the 1500s but did not establish permanent settlements. St. Augustine, Florida, was founded in 1565 by the Spanish. The British tried to establish a settlement in Virginia, known as Roanake, Virginia, in 1587 but the colony, known as the lost colony, did not survive. The Jamestown colony in 1607 was the first permanent British colony in North America. The first people into the Americas were nomadic hunters. They didn't plan to come here, they followed the migrations of the game. There was no point where somebody said "hey, welcome to the New World" Like most people, they were interested in getting enough to eat and leaving things a bit better for their children. We don't consider them "Native Americans" as they weren't born here and they predate the development of today's Native Americans(Indians). Rather we call them "PaleoIndians." They walked across dry land from Asia.
The Early People crossed the land bridge(called Beringia because when it melted it became known as the Bering Strait) from Asia to North America thousands of years ago because the mammoths migrated there and if the mammoths left and the Early People didn't they wouldn't have food to eat. They would need some meat other than all vegetables. If they wouldn't have followed the mammoths, the mammoths would still be alive today walking our streets and destroying everything in its path. Also we probably wouldn't be in America if they didn't.
