The both deal with establishing boundaries for slave and free states. The Missouri compromise made Missouri a slave state while balancing the scale by declaring Maine a free state. As for the Kansas Nebraska Act, this established the Mason Dixon line which segregated in its entirety half of the U.S. into slave and free states while leaving several states to be determined by popular sovereignty.
Both Missouri Compromises and the Kansas-Nebraska Act in effect, an attempt to take slavery off of the US national agenda. Both were compromises of sorts, and it left the 1856 US presidential elections, a non-slavery issue. Also, the Fugitive Slave Act, helped quell Southern fears. The so-called Mason-Dixon Line was not an issue to speak of.
Mainly, the Kansas-Nebraska Act served to repeal the Missouri Compromise and allowed new states, especially Kansas and Nebraska, to choose whether they would be slave or free.
Both were designed to maintain the balance between the number of slave states and the number of free states.
