The Boston Tea Party was a protest of the lowering of the cost of the British tea by the government and the East India tea company who had gotten a bail out from the crown in 1773. The smugglers in the colonies found the Dutch tea that they sold was higher in price than the British tea, so they staged the Boston Tea Party and others in harbors in the colonies ( Hamilton was one of the largest smugglers in the colonies and a founding member of the Son's of Liberty). The cost of tea also went as far back as the Navigation Acts and the restricting of trade to and from the colonies passed from 1650-1733. Tea was also taxed in 1767 in the Townsend Acts.

yes until the tax come upon it. colonists refused to drink the tea so that the British did not get their way and money they had been expecting to earn. Soon the BOSTON TEA PARTY came and the colonists had done a great job of defeating the British and their soldiers. While this "tea party" had come, all of the colonists going to sea, dressed up as mohawk indians. Hope you learned something! ;)

The colonists ate many desserts such as apple dumplings, pudding, cookies, blueberry flummery, gingerbread and Holiday Wassail. Holiday Wassail is just a fancy drink. (they still drink it today in England!) The colonies' main source of food was vegies, fruit, fish, corn and meat. ( plus dessert!)

Yes, tea was popular, but so was coffee. By the mid 1700's coffee houses were all over London. A large amount of the tea in the colonies was Dutch brought in by smugglers. Hancock and Hamilton were two of the biggest smugglers in the colonies. Hancock created and supported the Son's of Liberty. When the British lowered the taxes on tea this hit the pocket books of the smugglers so the Boston Tea Party was arranged. This was a financial issue more than one of taxes. In reality the colonies paid less in taxes than they did in Britain.
