Clothing in the 1700's was usually made from wool or linen. Have you ever seen Pirates of the Caribbean? The setting of that movie was around 1722. The clothes weren't revealing at all. Women's legs and arms were covered.

Most women didn't own more than 3 or 4 outfits. People with money wore wigs and the gown had big poofy side skirts like British women wear in old movies such as The Duchess and Marie Antoinette.
