The overall basic difference is the ability to obtain widely varying performance for the reactor depending on the amount of recycle sent back to the plug-flow reactor (PFR).

The equations do not lend themselves to typing. For a comprehensive overview of the subject see p.296-297 of Chemical Engineering Kinetics & Reactor Design by Charles G. Hill.

Definition of recycle and purge stream?

portion of recycle stream which has been removed in order to prevent accumulation in system.

Basic operation of plug flow reactor?

The two fluids to be reacted mix and flow through a pipe that is stuffed full of catalyst. The length of the pipe depends on the desired conversion of product. A recycle stream can be added to mix with the incoming feed if desired. Also one or more of the reactants can be added at different points in the reactor if desirable. If the reaction is exothermic a cooling mechanism will be needed to reduce thermal stress on the reactor walls and/or keep the reactor operating at the desired temperature.

What is a plug flow reactor and what are its concentration characteristics?

The fluids to be reacted mix and flow through a pipe that is stuffed full of catalyst. The length of the pipe depends on the desired conversion of product (the longer the pipe, the greater the % conversion.) The pipe diameter depends on the desired capacity of the reactor.

What are the positive aspects of water power in your home?

Not many homes have water power, you have to be lucky enough to live on a stream and have the right to use the water. If the stream is suitable you can put in a small water turbine and generator, and get free electricity, but you might be left with nothing in a dry summer.

What is the difference between ditch and stream?

a ditch ain't got no water in it. A stream does

What is the difference between a continental jet stream and a polar jet stream?

A continental jet-stream travels parallel to the equator - a polar jet-stream travels in a north/south direction.

What is a dangerous condition caused by the overheating of the nuclear core of the reactor?

Overheating of the reactor fuel rods could damage the zircaloy sheaths and enable gaseous fission products to enter the reactor coolant stream. This alone would not be dangerous, but if a loss of coolant had caused the overheating then this could release activity into the secondary containment. What would follow from this depends on the individual design of the plant.

What is the difference between an ephemeral and interermittent stream?

The terms are typically synonymous : )- the opposite of a perennial stream which flows year round.

What is the difference between a perennial stream and an intermittent stream?

Perennial is a stream or river that has a continuous loop of a flow in parts of a stream bed all year round during years of normal rainfall. A intermittent is a stream or river which carries water in a considerable portion of the time, but ceases to flow occasionally or seasonally because bed seepage and evaporation/transpiration exceed the available water supply. That is a summarized form of what each stream are. In conclusion, the difference is the way the stream flows. Perennial is a circular stream that is steady all year long, while a intermittent stream is at a specific timing.

What is difference between a stream and river?

The difference between a river and a stream is the name applied to it by local residents, and relative size. In the same region, something called a river is usually larger than something called a stream. However, something that is called a river in one place could be the same size as something called a stream in another place.

What is the difference between a River and a tributary?

A stream that runs into another stream or river is called a tributary. A river and all of it's tribunes together is a river system.
