Many critics of the US' participation in the Vietnam War centered around the fact that the US was supporting a corrupt South Vietnamese government. In addition to that, the number of US casualties were very heavy and despite all of the US troops deployed there, there was no end to the war in sight.

Many critics also debunked the US position that a communist victory in Vietnam would create a domino effect and communism would spread rapidly in Southeast Asia.

In almost all wars, somebody has to have a disadvantage. It could be anything from knowledge of the terrain to better supply systems to better arms and armor to numerical superiority. Only your imagination cannot limit the possibilities.

The only real disadvantage for the US during the Viet War was the cold war itself. Nuclear Weapons=Cold War.

Had it not been for the cold war (atomic weapons) the US could have done what it has always done in past wars (minus Korea); invade the enemies homeland, use any and all weapons available (nukes), and take him out.

The cold war prevented this, thus Vietnam...
