It wasn't Americans, or at least the US Armed Forces. It was CIA-trained Cubans that wanted to take back their country from Fidel Castro. It was disastrous and didn't work.

It would be called the Bay Of Pigs Invasion. The CIA trained exiled Cubans to infultrate cuba and overthrow Castro. The invasion was a failure resulting in the killing of all the exiled Cubans as they invaded.
