Hindus believe in one true god, Brahman, but Brahman has many forms.

Hindus believe that there is one true god, the supreme spirit, called Brahman.

Most Hindus believe that Brahman is present in every person as the eternal spirit or soul, called the atman. Brahman contains everything: creation and destruction, male and female, good and evil, movement and stillness.

There are three main aspects of Brahman.

These are expressed in the trimurti and are:

  1. Brahma, the creator
  2. Vishnu, the preserver
  3. Shiva, the destroyer

Hindus believe that sometimes a god will appear on the earth as a person or an animal.

These are called avatars.

Important details:

Apparently there are many gods [not Gods/God] but if you keep digging in Upanishads you discover that many gods are the manifestations of the trinity Brahmaa, Vishnu and Shiva, but this is not even final, these three are Creator, Maintainer and Destroyer of the Universe, but beyond that who exists is the "Brahmana" [not Brahmaa or Brahmanaa], Brahmana is the highest reality, a formless, genderless pure consciousness the definition of which is "sat-chit-ananda", pure, undifferentiated state of non-duality ... which one may consider as the God but this isn't the God of Christianity or Islam, because that God has a gender and who created the Universe but behold, let me explain as far as I understand it, according to Upanishads, this whole reality of the Universe that we see along with all the gods and even the trinity is like a dream an illusion of the "Brahmana" = I, yes me.. but not this material you and I but the pure consciousness behind this material body... as if "I" is an entity looking through billions of eyes i the Universe thinking that everyone and everything is different, many, you and I are different... but if one goes deep inside one's consciousness, he unfolds the layers of ignorance and starts to see the real nature of the Universe and ultimately in the end he becomes one with the Brahmana and realize that nothing actually existed or existed it was he all along dreaming and so he experienced the Universe... this is non-dualism.. this is the realization that "individual pure consciousness or Atmana = Universal consciousness Brahmana".

Well I can go on and on, and we can read and discuss and go on but it all add up to nothing if we fail to reach that level of consciousness !
