What do MB and KB mean? |
Answer
A KB is smaller than a MB because there are 1000 kilobites (KB) in Megabite (MB).
Answer
Well, let's start small...a 'bit' is one digit - either a 0 or a 1. Bits are usually grouped in 'words' of 8 bits, called a Byte. 1024 Bytes are in a Kilobyte (2^10 bytes). 1024 KB are in a MB. For marketing reasons, some companies figure the size of a MB to be 1000 KB, but if you are looking for how many bytes you can hold on a disk or in memory, you must use 1024 bytes/KB, not 1000.
