Catfish eat small fish, water snakes, worms, water plants, and anything that looks good. They are bottom feeders. Their whiskers are really feelers, to help them determine what is food and what isn't. On the bottom of a lake it can be very murky and hard to see, so the feelers assist in finding anything moving along the bottom, such as worms, lizards, frogs, but all things like, fish eggs, and other aquatic animals that are dead. All these are eaten by catfish, some are known as Mud Cats and others as Channel Cats. I'm sure there are lots of other nicknames but these are the only ones I know. They serve a very important place in keeping the waterways clean, and at the same time they are fun to catch and just as much fun to eat.
mostley all catfish besides mekong catfish will eat any kind of dead fish or chicken livers and smelly stuff. mostley i recommend dead bream or bluegill or sunfish you can also buy premade catfish bait from the store witch works too. but i rercomend the fishbecause onece i caught a 18.6 lb blue catfish on my first cast using about 1 square in. of dead bluegill.
