What do children wear in Japan?

Children wear the same clothing as Westerners. But young school children are sometimes seen wearing identical hats and backpacks as the rest of their classmates. It is perhaps to identify the school, like a uniform. When I was staying in Tokyo the children near my apartment would wear yellow hats and yellow backpacks to school. Other than that it is the same as here in America. T-shirts, shorts or pants, sandals or sneakers.

They do the same stuff as kids do all around the world. They play Video Games, read comic books, watch TV and play sports. Most Japanese students in junior high school and high school belong to a club at school. It could be a sports club, or a club like brass band or computer club. Students might do club activities Monday - Sunday throughout the year with time off depending on the school or coach. You select a club when you are in first year. If you select volleyball club then you will play volleyball all year round for three years. They don't have sports seasons like they do in America. Many Japanese kids also attend juku or cram schools. The go there after regular school finishes or on the weekends. How often they go depends on how serious they are about studying and what school they are trying to get into. Another thing they love doing is texting friends on their cell phones. Some say that Japanese young people are more comfortable texting their friends than speaking face to face.
