Mainly small rodents such as mice and small rats. They may also eat small lizards and sometimes smaller snakes. They are known to be cannibals and may eat a smaller kingsnake. Sometimes they eat small bird eggs, like those of finches, pigeons, and most Songbirds. They will even eat baby birds, if flightless or not mature enough to fly.

Other snakes, lizards, and mice and other rodents, bird eggs and chicks, and possibly frogs or nontoxic salamanders. Most snakes are very opportunistic feeders, and will often eat any vertebrate animal they can catch.

Members of the kingsnake family are notorious for ophiophagy (snake eating), which is how they got the name 'king snake'. This particularly species primarily eats rodents when fully grown, as well as any snake it can catch and swallow.
