What do pleura do?

Pleura are thin layers of smooth epithelium that make up the pleural tissue that lines the inner surface of the walls of the chest. The two layers of the pleura are in contact and slide over one another as the lungs expand and contract. A small amount of pleural fluid found in the thoracic cavity serves as a lubricant, reducing friction as the tissues rub against each other.
