Quokkas graze; they feed on grasses, sedges, succulents, and foliage of shrubs. People sometimes feed them bread and other foods but this may kill the Quokka. Where they live on Rottnest Island, water is especially scarce during summer, meaning that the quokkas rely on succulents for their water needs - which is why bread and dry foods are so dangerous.

All Quoll species are dasyurids, meaning they are carnivorous marsupials. They will feed on smaller mammals like possums and mice, lizards, frogs, birds and insects such as the cockchafer beetle and corbie grub. Being nocturnal and arboreal, they hunt effectively at night, preying on roosting birds. Unfortunately, they also eat cane toads, which has caused some reduction in their population in northern regions of Australia.

The species known as the Eastern quolls are omnivores and efficient scavengers, meaning they will also eat carrion, or the remains of dead animals. These quolls have been known to eat fruit and grass.

As one of the Australian native animals that is pretty much at the top of the food chain, the quoll is threatened by very little (apart from man causing habitat loss). They do not inhabit the same areas as dingoes, so there is little threat from them. Smaller quolls can be eaten by Birds of Prey. Feral foxes are one of the biggest threats, but quolls can climb to escape from them as well.

Quolls are much smaller than koalas, and will not attack an adult koala. Nor will quolls challenge a mother koala for the joey riding on her back. However, if a koala joey were to somehow be le behind, then the quoll would certainly take the opportunity to eat it.

As a predator itself, the quoll, which is a carnivorous marsupial native to Australia, sits at the top of the food chain. Apart from people, who are a danger to most species, the main predators of the quoll are introduced species such as foxes and dogs. Foxes will hunt and eat young quolls, but dogs and humans usually only kill them for sport. Large birds of prey such as eagles and owls may prey on young quolls.
