The modern, simple term of Taoism belief would be "live and let live." They believe religion should free you, not bind you. Taoists like to free themselves from reality. They don't like to talk things out because we can appreciate beauty, recognize wisdom, and knowledge without discussing any of it. They believe that the older they get, the more saintly they become. The goal is
immortality. If they die, then they know they did not reach enlightenment. The spirit will reincarnate.
Taoism is much like Buddhism, only Buddhist believe the reincarnation of consciousness, not spirit. Their goal is to live a life without pain and suffering. Every life you live will have less pain and suffering, and when you finally reach enlightenment, only then will you die because you have finally lived correctly in a life without pain.
