There are 2 satges in a heartbeat: Systole and Diastole.
Systole: Is the stage when the heart contracts and pumps the blood.
Diastole: Is the stage when the heart relaxes (the time where it is at rest and where it doesn't pump any blood).
The two numbers are written in fraction form. The top number represents Systole and the bottom number represents diastole.
